What we’re against.

Mission statements are usually too long to remember. Here are eight lines that should be enough to keep us honest.

— We are for

  • Telling people the truth about their money — calmly, accurately, and once.
  • Designing for the moment a number actually changes a behavior, and not before.
  • Treating users as adults who can read a chart and disagree with it.
  • Building software whose tone you would tolerate in a friend.

— We are against

  • Confetti for skipping a latte.
  • Push notifications that congratulate people on existing.
  • Selling user data to advertisers, “partners,” or otherwise.
  • Pretending that gamification is therapy.
